Robin Givhan of The Daily Beast sounded a tart review of Dw, Kanye West’s ambitious prêt-à-porter womenswear effort. A tyro pupil de mode, West meetly debuted Dw at Parisian primary school Lycée Henri IV during Paris Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2012 showings.
My friend fleshed an informed opinion apposite with West’s artistic perspective and influences.
What don’t people get? It’s Ye.
I think it is a good effort and definitely looks more legit than any other celeb line except The Row/Elizabeth and James - though I’m not sure any celeb designer can top what MK and Ashley have been able to do. The Balmain and Givenchy influences were definitely noticeable and the line seemed, to me, just a well mixed version of both. I look forward to what we might see in the future from this line, but I am wondering if it will be commercially viable or just end up being a cool project that Kanye did one year.
Mr. West may just have the goods to etch Dw a formidable presence in haute couture.
